This is a guide for Microsoft OneDrive Personal. You may be interested in OneDrive for SharePoint (aka OneDrive for Business) which is very different from personal OneDrive, especially in how it handles file sharing, permissions, and public access.
You can no longer host a static files like a GLB or JPG on Personal Microsoft OneDrive to use in Hyperspace.
Microsoft has modified the "public access" to OneDrive links. Now MS requires an OAuth 2.0 ID before access to any file – even public ones.
Microsoft recently tightened access to OneDrive personal files, even for links that were previously public. As of early 2024, personal OneDrive accounts no longer support fully unauthenticated direct links that work seamlessly with Hyperspace.
This change breaks the old method of using OneDrive as a poor man’s CDN or file hosting.
🔒 What Changed
- Direct file access (like download=1) now often prompts authentication or fails with a 403.
- Even if you set a file to "Anyone with the link can view", Microsoft may still require authentication for certain embed use cases.
- The CDN-like behavior of 1drv.ms or onedrive.live.com is no longer reliable for static asset embedding on web pages.
❌ What won't work:
If you set a file (e.g., Dell Visor.glb) in OneDrive to be shared publicly, you can obtain a direct link to that file and use it as the URL for a 3D item in Hyperspace.
Steps to get a usable image URL:
- Upload the glb to your OneDrive.
- Right-click the glb and choose "Share".
- Set the link to "Anyone with the link can view".
- Copy the sharing link.
It will look like:

- That’s not a direct image URL yet. You need to modify or convert it to a direct link.
Paste it into your browser and it will redirect to a long onedrive.live.com URL.
Copy the final redirected URL and try appending:
&download=1
